CHATEAU Bed/breakfast

Château Lamothe Prince Noir

Place of exception for a private and genuine stay
in Bordeaux region

Beyond Bordeaux, on the right bank of the river to the east, lies a fairy-tale landscape of gentle hills and a patchwork of vineyards, woodland, fields and meadows. Here lie castles and manor houses nestled in their land, pretty villages with narrow, winding medieval cobbled streets, mysterious and secret passages to caves... Discover ancient homes restored to their former glory, charming courtyards, large gardens and Romanesque churches beyond number. This is the most exciting area to explore the old heritage of this region which dates back to the 11th Century and earlier to the Roman period, even to Prehistorical times. One feels here in the real French atmosphere!.
Chateau Lamothe Prince Noir is perfect to experience this genuine rural environment with its castle tucked away in its parkland with protected grounds (21 hectares) adjacent to the village gates..

This castle built at the 12th Century, during the time Aquitaine came under English control, was converted in the 14th Century into a hunting lodge where the "Black Prince", Prince of Wales and Governor of Aquitaine, Edward of Woodstock, used to come and stay. Chateau Lamothe has stood majestically with its three towers since this period, and is still surrounded by its original moat filled with running water. To enter the building, you have to cross, a unique little bridge...
Château Lamothe, originally a feudal fortress, was coverted into a residence in the early 18th century and is today a family dwelling which provides a prestigious B&B with a high level of personalised services and high-tech in-room facilities. We can provide an exclusive stay for a special group of 12 adults.

Chateau Lamothe is ideally located nearby Saint-Émilion (20 mns), and approx one hours' drive from Sauternes and the Médoc. It is easy to reach Bordeaux center within 15 minutes, especially if you want to shop or go out at night. We are just 45 minutes from the International Bordeaux Airport (or at 90 mns from Bergerac Airport for some low cost companies...) and 20mns from the TGV train station (towards Paris and Spain).
